CSD Desktop is a resource-matching matter workflow engine that automates tasking, tracking and reporting of legal work.
The Business Problem The administrative overhead of managing an increasing number of pro-bono matters had begun to limit the amount of cases that could the firm could handle. Several disparate databases were being used to manage the work process, but these were becoming unwieldy and status updates status updates became a challenge to keep after. Furthermore, the community service interest profiles of every firm employee existed in paper form only, making the matching of qualified help to appropriate cases dependent upon the familiarity of a rotating pro-bono department staff. Finally, with so many pieces of process data in so many places, end-of-year reporting took months to compile. The Articulated Solution Working with firm technologists and another contracting company, Ai designed and built a system to capture and optimally match attorney and staff qualifications and matter interests to the specific needs of a pro-bono matter. This same system also manages the tasking and notification of the staged project workflow from the perspectives of each member of the matter team. Since all actions and contributions are captured in the system database, reporting occurs with a high degree of accuracy within minutes. The Business Impact During the first full calendar year of use, the Community Service Department was able to double matter throughput and attorney participation without increasing staff size. Furthermore, reporting time dropped to 3 weeks from two months, which further supported the ability of the department to manage and further progress on its docketed matters. |
